Zak Smith

Director of Marketing

Zak serves as Director of Marketing and has been part of the Universal Construction team since 2017. He leads the company's marketing and business development efforts, helping build relationships, identify opportunities, and support the pursuit of projects throughout Kansas and Missouri.


Zak works closely with clients, school districts, municipalities, architects, and community partners to help connect Universal Construction with organizations seeking trusted construction services. His responsibilities include overseeing business development initiatives, managing the RFQ and RFP process, coordinating presentations and interviews, tracking project opportunities, supporting company technology needs, and helping maintain Universal's visibility throughout the region.


Throughout his career with Universal Construction, Zak has helped support the pursuit of numerous education, municipal, community, and commercial projects. Through client outreach, trade shows, industry events, interviews, and community involvement, he helps create opportunities that support the company's continued growth and long-standing partnerships throughout the region. His work has contributed to projects ranging from educational facilities and community spaces to civic and public safety facilities across Kansas and Missouri.



Outside of work, Zak enjoys spending time with his wife, attending Royals games, traveling, and visiting Disney destinations whenever possible. He is passionate about all things Disney, movies, music, and theater, and enjoys sharing those interests through performances, productions, and community involvement.
