Archie Smith V

Archie serves as Chief Executive Officer of Universal Construction and brings over 32 years of experience in the construction industry, all of which have been spent with the company. As a fifth-generation leader, he helps guide the company’s strategic direction while maintaining a strong focus on relationships, quality, and community-focused construction.

Although Archie grew up around the family business, he originally was not sure construction would be his career path. Over time, he developed a passion for the industry and joined Universal Construction, continuing a family legacy that spans more than a century. His connection to the company runs deep, following in the footsteps of previous generations of the Smith family, including his grandfather, who managed projects for Joplin Schools.

Archie has played a significant role in helping lead major education, municipal, healthcare, and community-focused projects throughout Kansas and Missouri. Years after his grandfather’s work in Joplin, Archie helped lead Universal Construction’s involvement in the rebuilding efforts following the devastating Joplin tornado, bringing that family connection full circle.

In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Archie remains actively involved in the construction industry and local community through professional organizations and service on the Liberty Education Foundation Board. Outside of work, he enjoys running, staying active, and spending time with family and friends.
